Sewing Machine, 1/4” foot or similar, and all the items to make your sewing machine work

Fabric:
Top - 2 each of 20 different width of fabric at 2 1/2” wide
the fabrics should coordinate for a total of 40 strips
1 jelly roll may work if there are two of each fabric
Binding - 1/2 metre
Backing - 2 1/2 meters for a long arm machine quilting
or 44” or greater WOF x 70” if quilting on a domestic machine.
Batting - crib size or 46 x 70”

Participants should bring their own small sharp embroidery scissors labelled with their name, and a thimble if they use one. A variety of thimbles will be available to try out. Bring an embroidery hoop if desired. Jean does not use one for small projects.

• The only tool you need to bring is a small block plane – even something as simple as this ($9.99) would be adequate: https://www.homehardware.ca/en/3-35-x-1-35-iron-block-plane/p/1043102
• Wear old cloths that you don’t mind getting sawdust, dirt, glue on, etc. A workshop apron may be helpful but not required.
• Instruction will be indoors, exercises will be outdoors. It may get chilly, so bring some gloves and an old sweater/coat, etc.

Equipment needed:
1 ball of Briggs and Little Country Roving (available at Uptown Yarns in Courtenay). Knitting needles (set of 5 double pointed needles OR 32" circular with a flexible cable) for knitting in the round, 7.5 - 9 mm. Darning needle (large eye). Stitch markers. Equipment needed:
Yarn: Approximately 50g of lighter coloured, aran to bulky weight yarn, preferably not cotton/hemp/linen.
Knitting needles (9-10" straight or 24-32" circular) for knitting flat, appropriate gauge for your yarn (most likely 5 to 6mm). Please contact Sarah at sarsbarknits@gmail.com if you have any questions about materials

Students should bring (Supply list)
• Paper that you wish to cover your house with. It can be decorated (like printed scrapbook paper) or plain (you can even decorate the paper after the book is made). You’ll need the equivalent of 4 pieces of 8.5 x 11” paper. I will have some available, but it might not be to your taste! You can decorate the paper after the book is assembled.
• Ruler with metal edge - at least 12"
• Heavy duty Exacto-type craft knife with extra blades – we cut bookboard in this class so make sure you’re comfortable with the knife.
• Self-healing cutting mat or other table guard that is at least 12”
• Bookbinding awl - I will have some at the class you can borrow if needed.
• pencil for notetaking and marking
• Scissors
• Bone folder - or embossing tool or plastic crochet hook
• Book cradle – if you have one
• Brayer – if you have one
• scraps of paper to use as a guard sheet or waxed paper
• a piece of old credit card for spreading glue
• a few paper towels – just in case!
and if you have them and would use them
• rubber stamps with house/home theme and some stamping supplies
• a few scraps of decorative paper
• possibly (but not necessary) a small supply of odd buttons, beads, charms, twigs, raffia

Students will be provided with a kit that includes a 10” x 10” flower design on backing
suitable for hooking with t-shirts, a rug hook, and a selection of t-shirt fabric. This does
not include the black background fabric that can be easily obtained by the student. The
kit is $50.00.
Supplies required: large sewing scissors for cutting strips, a large 14” hoop (not an
embroidery hoop), a selection of colorful used t-shirts that could be incorporated into
your rug. Hoops may be purchased from the instructor for $50.00 plus tax ($56.00).

Supplies needed:
Sewing machine. Please note that this is not a repair class. Your machine must be in good working order.
Sewing machine parts. This includes power cord, foot pedal, presser feet or other attachments.
Bobbins that fit your machine.
Sewing machine manual. If you don’t have one, you may be able to find one online.
Extension cord.
Scissors, pins, stitch ripper
Thread that you would normally use.
Fabric that you’d like to sew with, or have had trouble sewing with.

1. A small bucket or dish pan for soaking materials
2. An old towel
3. A notebook and pencil
4. Sharp, hand-held secateurs
5. An awl if you have one
6. A spray bottle
7. Optional: Any materials you’d like to incorporate into your basket such as fabric, wire, embellishments such as beads or any trinkets with a hole in them
I will bring hand-dyed reed, cedar for ribs, assorted materials and structural materials for hoops and handles

List of materials:
· Knitting needles: 5 mm needles for working flat (straight or 60-80cm circular needle)
· Crochet hook: 4.0 – 4.5mm (optional, for chain cast on)
· Sewing needle and thread, wool felt pieces ~10cmx10cm (optional)
· Optional - worsted weight yarn in two colours, if you have specific yarn you'd like to use.

Folks would need to bring(and know how to work) a sewing machine, white thread and at least 4 full bobbins of white thread plus a ruler.

Participants can bring scissors and a crochet hook if they have one.

Equipment needed will be provided in the form of a beginner’s kit. This will include one dozen
wooden bobbins, thread, straight pins and a suitable beginner’s “pillow”. With this, students will
be able to continue lacemaking after the class and go on to make more!

Scissors
Fabric strips. Lightweight wovens, such as quilting cotton, work best. Denim and wools are not suitable. Colour choice is up to you. Use coordinating fabrics or mix and match. Cut, don’t rip, strips into 1” by at least 40”. You’ll need between 20 and 25 strips. Instructor will also bring fabric for you to use.

Students are encouraged to bring an item they would like to mend that is made from a woven fabric or sturdy knit (ideally not a stretchy material, to make things easier.) Mended area should be no larger than 2x2 inch, again this is to ensure a successful and enjoyable experience.

Other supplies will be provided during the class, however if students have small embroidery scissors, thimbles, or embroidery hoops that they are already comfortable using they are encouraged to bring these supplies.

Kit fee covers all required materials
