This is a wonderful and straightforward technique suitable for beginners and interested basket-makers at any level.
This basket is constructed using the Appalachian rib- construction technique, (my favourite basket-making technique,) you will create a framework from two forked sticks.
After developing the framework, you’ll choose your colour palette from my selection of hand dyed reed and learn how to insert ribs and weave the “fabric” of the basket. Once you settle
into weaving, it’s a very relaxing and enjoyable process. Although we will primarily be weaving with reed, I’ll bring some other materials for you to try and
invite you to bring some too in order to see what works. The result with be a lovely, shallow platter shaped like a leaf! You’ll have techniques to work
with other rib construction designs in the future.
