The Ancient Art of Bobbin Lace

The Denman & District Bobbin Lace Club was started more than 100 years ago by Elsie Spencer, who came from England to Denman Island, bringing her lacemaking with her. She soon had other residents join her. As a result, the club has been operating steadily since then. Students will learn the two fundamental “stitches” used in this ancient form of lacemaking. From there they can go on to all the combinations of these two stitches and make beautiful bobbin lace. Members of the Denman and District Lace Club will help you get started and feel confident enough to produce a useful bookmark during the class.
