Functional beauty with a toe dipped into the past, that at it's core drew me into the textile art world. I like to keep my classes rooted in sharing our collective history of fiber arts--the mythos and magic of creation. Spinning is near to the root of textile processing--before there were wheels there was handspinning. People gathered together, sharing stories and turning fibers into cordage. This class will focus on the support spindle which can be found all over the world. A similar technique to the more widely known drop spindle, but a slightly different process.
Students will learn how to thigh roll, draft and spin singles. Plying and wet finishing will be discussed.
